Zambia Mission – New York

HAPPY KENNETH KAUNDA DAY

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations joins Zambians in celebrating the Kenneth Kaunda Day, which falls today, April 28, 2025. Zambia commemorates the KK Day in honour of the First President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda. Today would have been Dr Kaunda’s 101th birthday.

The commemoration is held under the theme “Kenneth Kaunda, the Patron of Sports and Arts.” Dr Kaunda’s vision for Zambia was one that promoted sports for a healthy and prosperous nation.

The Mission celebrates Dr. Kaunda’s enduring legacy in fostering national unity through cultural and athletic excellence. Dr. Kaunda’s visionary leadership not only championed Zambia’s independence but also elevated sports and arts as pillars of social cohesion, exemplified by his iconic support for the national football team, the KK11, and his advocacy for grassroots talent development.

We underscore Dr. Kaunda’s timeless values of peace, humility, and pan-Africanism and urge citizens to emulate his dedication to service and inclusivity.
