Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Charles Milupi has underscored the need to ensure the sustainability of HIV response on the continent.
Delivering opening remarks at the meeting of health ministers, partners and senior officials at an event co-hosted by Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire, Honourable Milupi said Zambia had made substantial progress towards attaining the 95-95-95 target and has prioritised sustainable financing to the health sector, including HIV and AIDS response.
The 95-95-95 target is a set of goals established by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) to help reduce HIV transmission and mortality.
Hon Milupi represented his counterpart health minister Elijah Muchima at the event, whose theme was ‘African Leadership at the centre of the HIV response: HIV Control Working Group UNGA High Level Meeting’. The meeting was attended by ministers and senior officials from health ministries across Africa as well as cooperating partners to the health sector.
The event was held on the margins of the Summit of the Future and the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
