New York, USA 05.02.25 – The Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations (UN), in collaboration with the co-facilitators of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) today successfully hosted an engagement between the management at the (IMF) and Permanent Representatives to the United Nations.
The engagement was motivated by the need to promote enhanced dialogue between the IMF in Washington DC and the United Nations delegates in the lead up to the FFD4 and beyond.
The presentations and discussions focused on the key challenges and the evolution of debt vulnerabilities in Low Income Countries and Emerging Market Developing Economies (EMDEs) as well as the role of the IMF in financing sustainable development.
The engagement provided an opportunity for member state representatives to discuss and get clarification on key developments at the IMF including on the joint IMF-World Bank Three-Pillar Approach towards debt sustainability and the comprehensive agenda of the IMF focusing on macroeconomic stability.
In opening the session, H. E. Dr. Chola Milambo acknowledged the importance of the work of the IMF to the successful implementation of the outcome of the FFD4 and the call for reforms in the International Financial Architecture being echoed by many stakeholders in the discourse so far.
The Permanent Representatives and experts actively participated in the discussions and commended Zambia and the co-facilitators for this timely initiative taking place a few days ahead the 3rd Session of Preparatory Committee on the FFD4 to be held in New York from 10th to 14th February 2025.
The FFD4 co-facilitators have taken the approach to be consultative including with various institutions that will contribute to the FFD4 Outcomes. The event was held at the United Nations and facilitated by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
