The Permanent Secretary said this when she delivered Zambia’s National Statement during the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States of America. The CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality, the rights, and the empowerment of women. It is instrumental in promoting women’s and girls’ rights, documenting the reality of their lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

As the world commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action this year, Ms. Kabika reiterated Zambia’s commitment to its full and accelerated implementation. The 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was adopted at the

Ms. Kabika highlighted the significant strides made by Zambia in advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls such as the enactment of the Anti-Gender-based violence Act, the Gender Equity and Equality Act, the Children’s Code Act, the Marriage Act, and the Persons with Disabilities Act. All these acts are aimed at protecting and promoting the rights of women and girls.

And Ms. Kabika has called upon all stakeholders to join hands in building a world where women and girls enjoy equal rights, opportunities, and a future free from discrimination and violence.

The two-week long session opened on 10th March and ends on 21st March 2025.
